Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011—an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike.
This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.
Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerizing) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.
My rating: 4.5 stars
I truly love all aspects of this series. Thank you, Ransom. You created a wonderful world.
I’ll start by saying that I was associated Miss Peregrine and Tim Burton’s work before I found out that he will make a film based on this book.
Their styles are really similar. I call this kind of product “the grim fairy tale”.
Yes. The grim fairy tale. Ideal for description.
It’s not the horror stories, although they have a pretty gloomy aspects, but they are not intended to scare you. They are intended to enchant you by the beauty of their awfulness.
And it’s much nicer than many little books about fairies and heroes who are good.
My mother always said that good is not triumphs over evil. It puts evil to knees and brutally kills. Yes, it’s disgusting for children’s fairy tales. But not for the real life.
And it is very ironic that exactly the kind of books make me even more to love the world.
Because the main characters in this book are not saving the world. They talk about it directly. They just want to be happy. And eventually, this is the main reason why they are saving the world. It’s terrible, but only in this world they can be happy.
And it’s very inspiring to me.
And that’s exactly why I want for every person to read these books
Well, still, of course, for the sake of Emma and Jacob. And Olivia. And Hugh. And Enoch. And the rest. Because they are cuties.
I also want to add to this list a talking dog and holed chest girls.
In general, it’s an incredible series!
